Every trip to the Sunshine Coast means a 40 minute trip, out of Horseshoe Bay; around Bowen Island; across the base of Gambier Island and Howe Sound; and finally into the Langdale dock. It’s good once in a while to get my head out of a book – and to actually take a look.
The view from the deck provides daily opportunities to see families in action.
This young family are almost daily visitors as they make a pass from the forest down to the water’s edge.
You can see Great Blue Herons almost anywhere around Georgia Straight. Who knew they were a species at risk? Our resident heron “Rusty” is doing is best to woo one of the locals and strengthen the cove colony.
A short tour around Turnagain Island – we hardly had to leave the cove…
Beaches are great for landing kayaks, but sometimes they’re just not there. The kelp bed on this rocky shelf made for a great parking spot and a good jumping off point to explore the rocky shoreline.

These succulents (?) were everywhere. Clinging to every crack in the rock.

Every beach gets its trash. In these rocks are the usual suspects: foam, vodka bottle, string, paper, wood….
